Happy New Year reading list

Monday, December 31, 2007

Ciao,
This is a letter to everyone who might be happy to spend the NY celebration on their own, reading books or feeding their parrot. If they look for something specially designed to read while they listen fireworks outside this New Year reading list may help.

Interview with a guy who was working on something for two decades:

An inspiring blog on perfume and its history (and time) as the PDF (2 Mb) file by Luca Turin a biophysicist with a long-standing interest in the sense of smell, the art of perfume, and the fragrance industry. He is the author of the book The Secret of Scent (2006), which details the history and science of his theory of olfaction. Since 2003, Turin has also written a regular column on perfume, “Duftnote,” for NZZ Folio, the German-language monthly magazine of Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung and that’s there this PDF comes from:

If you still want to browse more I recommend fascinating link-blog by Francis McKee:

Happy New Year,
(Sharing with my friends last drops of tequila and running out for snowy weather),

The Shaggs

Monday, December 17, 2007

Frank Zappa is reported to have said of the Shaggs, “This sounds like the missing link between Fanny and Captain Beefheart & his Magic Band.” Zappa rated The Shaggs #3 best band in history in a Norwegian newspaper (April 1988).

A new old idea for a book

Thursday, December 13, 2007

A new old idea for a book entitled „In the future everything is going to be for free*“, where *sign would mean that “but everything will be packed up with advertising”. I imagine it as the hybrid of Marshal McLuhan’s book of advertising (Culture Is Our Business) and speculations on the future (about sharing and distributing global resources in terms of hardware and software).

Traditional Canadian dish

Saturday, December 8, 2007

I was surprised to hear from Canadians that they don’t have traditional dishes. So this is one of ideas to our Canadian friends. What if your traditional dish would be salmon prepared with maple syrup?

It sounds good, no? Two Salmon Maple, please.

Valentinas Klimašauskas, curator at Vilnius Contemporary Art Centre, recently curated exhibition on asteroid “2420 Ciurlionis”, student of Manifesta 6 (Nicosia, Cyprus), which did not take place; author of novel entitled “Alfavilnius” (Kitos knygos, December of 2007). Between other interests are self-programming, nano-gastronomy, art’s relation to gentrification, sexism and the anatomy of aliens, Darius Mikšys (techno-visionary from Vilnius) and meeting the invisible woman (desirably meeting an artist, not a curator, but the best would be to meet the invisible character).
